The ATO will request and collect details of individuals and businesses who have purchased or acquired a vehicle with a transaction value of $10,000 or greater in the 2011–2012 or 2012–2013 years. The ATO has said the details will be electronically matched to identify non-compliance with tax obligations regarding luxury car tax, FBT and fuel tax schemes. The ATO has said approximately 2.8 million individuals will be affected.

Further details on the motor vehicle data-matching program is available on the ATO website at www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.aspx?doc=/content/00193907.htm
