ATO data-matching programs

Back to front page

The ATO has advised that it will request and collect from various organisations certain identity and transaction details relating to securities held in all ASX-listed entities. The ATO said the details will be electronically matched with its data holdings to identify non-compliance with CGT, income tax and GST obligations under taxation law. It said approximately 1.2 million individuals will be affected by the program. However, the ATO anticipates that administrative action will be taken in relation to a “very small percentage (less than 1%)”.

The ATO will also conduct a new data-matching program by requesting from the Department of Human Services (Centrelink program) the names, addresses and other related information of taxpayers who:

  • were eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part B for the 2010 to 2013 income years; and/or
  • received parental leave pay for the 2010 to 2013 income years.

The ATO said the details will be electronically matched to identify non-compliance in relation to incorrectly claiming the dependent spouse tax offset. It said approximately 1.3 million individuals registered with the Department of Human Services will be affected.
